Staff wise, we're going through the yellow light. The Secret Santa is underway and staff members have been very thoughtful in their givings to other people. I've seen carrots, fruit, and scrapbooking stickers being passed onto others this week. What good healthy choices!! I've also planned a taco pot luck for our inservice tomorrow. I'm excited to meet with my peers at lunch and hopefully share a vision. I'd like to see us meet more regularly to share ideas and strategies with each other (not just gossip or negativity)! On another good note, I got one of the Kindergarten teachers to come and visit today with her class so we had a mini "Kindergarten Buddy" activity happening this afternoon. (I think I got a boost of positive energy just from seeing them again and being able to read a fun story to them.)
Class wise, my PM class is going to be stopping for the yellow light. I HAVE to find some new resources or ideas to try. The kids are not respecting the classroom materials, their teachers, or their peers. It is driving me crazy! The AM class is dealing with lots of sicknesses and needs to get healthy to get going again.
Students seem to be motivated when they have the opportunity to meet with another class. My students would always go and read with our 1st grade buddies. It forced them to practice their stories each week and they were very excited to share their progress with their reading buddy. Not sure if it would work for your age level, but become buddies with an older grade level and have them read to your students.
ReplyDeleteI like your analogy of the yellow light, my class has been there as well, perhaps still there. However, some of my students are waiting patiently at the bus stop for a few of my students. The bus is ready to depart and a few students are not willing to get on.
Remember to slow down, keep doing what you are doing as you are truly making a difference.
Karen,
ReplyDeleteYou have so many wonderful ideas, and implement them so well! You are a teacher and person of action, and I am always learning something from you. Have you shared "The Energy Bus" book with your coworkers yet? It would be interesting to see who'd hop on the bus with you if the book were left laying around! Good luck with your passengers! Janet
