Formative Assessment in Pre-K

For Formative Assessment, I primarily use:

Work Samples (Karen Hull) I collect work samples from each child numerous times during a year.  I want to see how they write their name, how they color in the lines, how well they cut, and etc.  We’re constantly practicing these skills throughout the year looking for improvements each time we do it.  They are then stored in a portfolio for each individual child.

Daily observations (Karen Hull) I write my daily observations on mailing labels.  Certain days the labels will be pre-printed with names or objectives as I’m looking for knowledge as of a specific date, some days they are blank so I can write just what I see.  For me, it pertains to the Creative Curriculum for Preschool by Teaching Strategies.  It is a continuum of developmentally appropriate skills that I then have to divide the labels up into the 4 domains (50 total objectives) per student.
