November 2011 Conference

I just finished another November Conference and I'm feeling a bit more refreshed to make it through the semester.  Our community had some time together to learn a few new community builders as well as discuss how the monthly homework assignments are going.  I'm once again glad to know I'm not alone.

I had time to attend round table discussions about others' action research projects.  One of them was fabulous in sharing her methodology, her paper, her pdp on weebly, and a one page form that summed up all her information.  I felt a lot more relaxed about our upcoming assignments after talking with her.  Another round table discussion that was beneficial to me, was the one that presented on autism.   She too was willing to share her methodology and pdp binder as well as resources of social stories for autism.  I like the round table discussions because each topic and presenter had a different way to go about similar tasks.

The job alike groups that shared best practice ideas are typically my favorite part.  I like to talk with teachers that are in my same situations and see how they handle different activities.  I got a lot of great ideas from that group.

Some of the sessions that I attended and enjoyed were Technology Tools for Teachers, Twitter, and the opening and closing keynote speakers.  The closing keynote speaker hit home with me because she kept me laughing and was a strong positive voice for early learners.  It is especially cool to hear from a teacher of the year.  I could certainly see her excitement and passion for her work.  I enjoyed Technology Tools to see what other schools are using and finding for student and staff use.  Twitter was a nice slow introduction of how to use it to build your own Professional Network.  The group of UW-L students in the beginning also really got my attention.  Their message was sometimes sad to hear, but they were true and tugged at my emotions.
