I found this article online at: http://www.tolerance.org/blog/pets-make-great-teachers-compassion
It gives examples of how classroom pets can teach so many lessons.
- Compassion for differences (things that are smaller than them, races, personalities)
- Injuries vs. disabilities (how to play carefully with things that are physically challenged)
- helping talk to one another respectfully
This all may be true, but I am the complete opposite to an animal
lover. I don't find anything cute about them and would rather spend my
time and resources on something else rather than a pet. Now, the 2
ladies that I work closest with have been asking each day, "Can we get a
mouse?" "Would birds be ok?", "How about a guinnea pig?". I agree
some children would like a classroom pet, but I can't handle them. I
guess I'll just have to find another way to cover those lessons.
Is anyone else out there that does not like animals?
